Abstract: Why can LEDs have a theoretical power conversion efficiency >100% but not lasers?  When can solar cells reach power conversion efficiency greater than 50%? These interesting questions about energy conversion for various kinds of p-n junction devices have been studied for more than half a century.  However, they still remain active research topics and have attracted even more attention recently.  This talk will first give a brief summary of the history about the research on these topics and then focus on our recent study of the electroluminescence refrigeration, laser diodes, solar cells. The topics range from a newly developed semi-analytical model for high-efficiency multi-junction solar cells to recent experimental results of our solar cells with record performance. In the end, the general trend of solar cell power generation and its market will also be discussed.
 
 
简历:张永航于19821977级)南京师范大学物理系毕业获学士学位,1987于中科院半导体研究所毕业获硕士学位,1988去德国马克斯·普朗克学会固体研究所进行学位研究工作,于1991年获德国自然哲学博士学位。1991-1993在加州大学圣芭芭拉分校做博士后研究,1993加入休斯实验室。1996他被被聘为亚利桑那州立大学(ASU)电气工程系副教授,2000晋升为教授,2012Fulton创业讲座教授(Fulton Entrepreneurial Chair)。
        张永航编辑了3本书,写了3本书的章节和发表了近300篇文章,给了400多个特邀和一般会议报告,14个已授予或正在受审的美国专利,并指导了30多名博士生以及超过40名博士后和访问学者。他是IEEE(国际电子电气工程师学会)会士和OSA(美国光学学会)会士,并多次担任数个国际学术会议的大会主席,程序委员会主席,和顾问委员会成员。张永航曾任ASU(亚利桑那州立大学)工程学院负责科研的副院长。张永航作为ASU光子学创新中心的创始人至今一直担任主任,同时为ASU大学NanoFab (纳米微结构制造中心) 主任。他的研究领域包括分子束外延(MBE)生长、半导体异质结构的光学特性、光电子器件及其应用。
